The vintage is now nearly over across most regions of Australia and it would appear that tonnage this year is significantly lower than the record highs of last year.
This has been reflected in the Kennedy vineyard. Average tonnages this year were in the vicinity of 7 tonnes per hectare (2.3 tonnes per acre), which has produced some grapes and wine of very good quality.

"Late winter showed some promise that the season may be normal this year
providing slightly above average rainfall for July and August.
Budburst was about average and it was hoped that the remainder of the
season would be "normal" too. Budburst was even and shoot growth
commenced rapidly boding well for vintage 2009, however rainfall in
September and October was below 20% of the long term average, and this
has hastened the season.

Vintage this year was particularly interesting as the weather conditions during January and February promoted fast development of flavours, while sugar development was slow to follow. With good balance between crop and the well managed canopy plus minimal irrigation, the grapevines were able to produce grapes that continue the Kennedy tradition of excellence.
